As you know, the second skin acts as a bandage (it easily gives way to oxygen for passing but outside pains can’t pass through) which is mostly used for skin healing — water-resistant is also its purpose. But also then, you can get it wet. Just follow up on the following considerations:
- Use fresh water not cold
- Avoid hot showers (high chemical and fragrance shampoo and soap for shower)
- Reduce shower time as much as possible
Now, I’m sure that you have the answer to your question: Can you get second skin wet?
I recommend you use Saniderm (a water-proof bandage) on your tattoo to make the showering process easier.
Now you will be wondering how Saniderm works. Then know:
What is Saniderm and how it works?
A waterproof bandage protects the tattoo from bacteria, friction, environmental stress, and dirt. Also known as a breathable bandage as it allows oxygen to pass through itself and is harsh on outside pains and irritations. This is normally comfortable for 3-5 days for the tattoo. So after that must change it to continue the tattoo healing process.
A major benefit of Saniderm is that it allows you to take a shower at any time. Because it acts as a resistance between tattoos and high contaminants (that are harsh on tattoos and make second skin off quickly). Meanwhile, it restricts the connection between tattoos and contaminants.
Remember that, it’s not a big problem! If you get wet Saniderm because wet Saniderm also adheres to the skin.
Note that, after understanding the above, do not stay lazy about tattoo care! Also then, spend minimum time while taking a shower as much as possible. Because prolonged exposure to water may weaken the ON Saniderm.
By the way, some experts suggest that you can apply it in your daily life to protect the tattoo. But it’s most beneficial for the initial tattoo healing process. You can change it as and when required!
Can you swim with Saniderm?
You should not Swim while using Saniderm. Because in swimming, you require much more movement and pressure than showering. So in swimming, there’s a big chance of second skin OFF and it can irritate the tattoo healing process.
Moreover, in swimming pools, many high chemicals are present that can irritate the tattoo — And it can enhance the infections.
I recommend that you avoid swimming until the tattoo is completely healed and no more Saniderm is needed. But also at that time, before swimming consider the following instructions:
Before and after swimming change your Saniderm:
This is because a freshly applied Saniderm provides more protection to the tattoo in water than a Saniderm that has been applied for a long time, so it’s advisable to change the Saniderm before Swimming.
After swimming the reason for the changing of Saniderm is that a lot of Saniderm wash OFF during swimming which is not good enough to provide adequate protection to the tattoo later ON!
Consultation:
If you use Saniderm due to other skin issues then consult with your dermatologist before swimming and having Saniderm.

The Sum of it all
After giving you all the instructions about the Second skin and the Tattoo, I’ll recommend you avoid getting wet second skin as much as possible. Because the main purpose of the second skin is the tattoo healing process. Wet second skin makes this goal effectless.
Along with this, keep an eye on the process of changing and removing the Saniderm or the second skin. Perform these processes according to your artist’s instructions.
